Jody Raffoul and Band bring the heat to Giants Stadium, Bon Jovi and Nickelback
The rain wasn’t the only anticipation at Giants Stadium yesterday. It was a long five months of waiting for both band and fans after Detroit’s WDVD announced that Jody Raffoul had won the Bon Jovi Eastern Conference ‘Have a Nice Gig’ Contest. The congratulatory message from Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora seemed surreal back in February, but as Jody and the band arrived at Giants Stadium yesterday, reality set in as did the heat.
Dedicated fans flew in from all over to show love and support for the Jody Raffoul Band and took up the better part of section 111. As they took their seats, the band was backstage settling nerves and finalizing the set list for the show. Jody and the guys took the stage directly after ‘Hey Tiger’ kicked off the evening’s performances.
As the announcer introduced Jody and the guys the atmosphere reached fever pitch amongst the Jody fans to the left of the stage and the band were thrilled to see many familiar faces cheering them on from our area. Jody, Wes, Shaky, Greasy, Charlie, Greg and background vocalist Kymberli Wright tore up the stage and they only grew more comfortable as the set went on. Tees were thrown into the crowd, Jody signs were everywhere and it’s safe to say that there were some new Jody Raffoul made that day!!
As the set came to a close, Nickelback got ready for their turn on center stage. Jody and the guys made their way up to section 111, a home away from home, to enjoy the rest of the concert. The clouds drew closer and by the time Bon Jovi took the stage around 8 PM, the wind began to pick up almost as much as the energy. Towards the end of the show, the skies opened up and the cold front swallowed the humidity. By 10:20, the production team had to close it down as the heavy thunder and lightning became a safety hazard.
Although the Bon Jovi show came to a hault, the night continued for the Jody Raffoul Camp just down the road at Yesterdays where the band, friends, fans and family were able to hang out and enjoy a very personal and intimate acoustic performance by Jody, Wes and Shaky. It was a long awaited after party and celebration. Congratulations to the Jody Raffoul Band it’s only the beginning!

Westview Tavern, Pelee Island, MI... 7 & 8 June 06
It could not have been a more beautiful weekend as Jody and the band returned to Pelee Island, Ontario for the 3rd annual weekend concert on "the rock." Fans from the US and Canada came in boatloads to join the natives in enjoying Jody's music. And Pelee islanders welcomed them with open arms as well as open bed and breakfast joints, hotels and restaurants. Friday night found Jody, Charlie, Shakey, Greasy and Wes at the Westview Tavern taking the stage as the last ferry pulled up to the dockside venue. The boys opened with some high energy Clapton, Who and Bad Company tunes, then launched into originals like Simple Life, Smile, Don't Let Go, and Everything Can Wait (featuring Amy Fowlkes on vocals). Next, fans heard a full band version of the Beatles' Here Comes the Sun (which was replayed on the CHYR FM morning show on Sunday for those who didn't get to hear it first hand). Set 1 continued with the unrecorded original It's Grand and wrapped with Bad Company's Shooting Star and Rock 'n Roll Fantasy. During the break, many in the crowd came over to get their first glimpse of the Like a Star 2006 tour t-shirt. By set 2, a lot of them were already suited up in their new Jody gear. This all original set included It's Only Love, She Says, Like a Star, Ten Times, Take Me Under, Insignificant Other, Light of Day, Everybody Pull Together and Love is the Answer. The Friday crowd insisted on an encore and so the last song of the night was an electric Rod Stewart's Every Picture Tells a Story. On to the after party. . . (What happens on Pelee Island stays on Pelee Island) and then to bed as the sun came up to rest up for Saturday's show.
Westview Tavern - Take 2
Saturday on the island was filled with sight-seeing, swimming/biking, perhaps a visit to the famed Pelee Island winery, and then a spectacular sunset over Lake Erie. As the night sky filled with a million stars, fans returned to the Westview. Jason Laba opened the show and then the Jody Raffoul band joined in the fun. This night had the band feeling in a Who kind of mood so the house rocked to songs like Seeker, Love Ain't for Keepin' and My Wife. But fans came to hear the band's music and so the guys delivered Don't Let Go and Love is the Answer. Set 2 opened with a Shakey drum solo--Ain't That a Shame. (Only the Jody Raffoul band's drummer can play solo and have the crowed recognize and sing along with the song.) More band originals followed, namely It's Only Love, and She Says. Shakey gave one of his patented bare belly rolls and the band launched into Light of Day. In the midst of the song, Jody, Wes and Charlie stopped singing and the crowd just kept on going. What lovely voices Jody fans have! The boys kept on with Like a Star and Everybody Pull Together. Then Jody took a moment to thank Bryan Jones for his hard work just taking care of everything that needed taking care of. Bryan handed Jody his electric guitar for an awesome version of Insignificant Other and Jody just kept jamming on it as the band eased into Marley's Get Up, Stand Up. The crowd expressed their appreciation of Jody's lead guitar by chanting "Jody, Jody." Saturday night was just getting started! The crowd sang along with the band on the favorite tune Simple Life and then the boys decided it was time to turn it up a notch. Some more Who, a little Free and then the tune 30 Days in the Hole. Fans wanted this song bad enough that they just started singing it on their own until the band joined in. Apparently some local bad apples made that song a favorite a few years back. Jody brought fans back in close for an intimate version of Dreamer and then the boys pumped the volume back up for Eric Clapton's Why Does Love Have to be So Sad (again with Amy lending her voice and Wes on lead guitar). It was a hot night but the crowd wasn't giving the band a break just yet. They brought Jody and the boys back for an encore that featured Zeppelin's Thank You and a reprise of Every Picture Tells a Story. Then Jody and all of the band spent some time posing for photos, signing autographs and just meeting fans--many of whom found their way to the after party until the wee hours of the morning. All in all, a glorious few days in one of nature's most perfect locations.
Hope to see everyone at Hatchy's this Tuesday night to give the band a big sendoff as they head to New York for the Bon Jovi/Nickelback show.

Mount Clemens Firework Display, Mt.Clemens, MI... 6/30/06
When Jody and the boys took the stage along the Clinton River Friday night, they were greeted by fans as far as the eye could see. By beach blanket or boat, they all came out to hear the band headline the annual fireworks event. The band was introduced as being fresh off the road from touring with Collective Soul and on their way to a sold out Pelee Island concert and then to open for Bon Jovi and Nickelback at Giants Stadium. The Mt. Clemens crowd knew they were in for a special show. As Jody powered through originals She Says, Ten Times, and Take Me Under, even the deputy on the Sheriff's patrol boat was busting a move. The band did a few cover songs (Shooting Star and Get Up, Stand Up) but then launched back into their own tunes including Insignificant Other, Light of Day, and Like a Star. Next, the capacity crowd heard Bad Company's Feel Like Makin' Love and Jody's own Everything Can Wait. Another Paul Rodgers song, All Right Now and then The Who's Behind Blue Eyes had the crowd on their feet and cheering for more. The band didn't disappoint, performing originals Everybody Pull Together, Simple Life and Smile. Rod Stewart's Every Picture Tells a Story was in there, featuring Wes Buckley on the VERY high backing vocals, and the boys wrapped with original tune Love is the Answer. The guys were unplugging prematurely though because Mt. Clemens screamed for an encore. Jody and the band invited them to "Join Together with the Band." And did they ever! What a party! The fireworks weren't bad either.

The Whiskey, Windsor, ON... 6/29/06
If you didn't get your ticket in advance for Jody's debut at The Whiskey Bar in Windsor, you didn't get to see the show. Tickets flew out the door well before the event and there wasn't an inch of extra room in the venue by the time Wes, Jody and Greg took the stage. The enthusiasm of the crowd really pumped up the band and it was quite a show. The first set opened with Simple Life, So Overlooked and Fantastic L.A., all from the Simple Life CD which was clearly a favorite in Windsor judging from the audience participation. Jody and Co. then performed unrecorded originals Days Gone By and Stay. Next, Jody played Homeland off of his very first self-titled CD and then Smile and a very rare performance of Grabtime, also off the Simple Life record. The second set featured Light of Day, Like a Star and She Says off the latest Like a Star recording. Don't Let Go and the new tune Learn From Me were in there too. A fellow "Bad Apple", Ronnie Raffoul was on hand and Jody called him up on stage to do the Beatles' Two of Us and Don't Let Me Down. Many fans know Ronnie from listening to Jody is his very first band. In another surprise move, Jody invited rapper Mikey J. up to the mic to perform their duet Say It Ain't So which was produced by Marky Mark. All hands were up and the crowd sang along to this moving anthem dedicated to Mikey and Jody's cousins. The band kept the emotion going with Bob Marley's Get Up Stand Up and Bad Company's Feel Like Makin' Love. Jeff Burroughs joined the boys on stage on tambourine for U2's Need Your Love and Jody then got the crowd into a sing along of The Who's Magic Bus. Finally, despite loud protests from the still packed house, Jody wrapped up the evening with originals My My, Ten Times and It's Only Love. Fans who didn't manage to get tickets, stood outside the venue all night just to listen. If you didn't catch Jody at The Whiskey Bar, come out tonight to catch the FULL Band open the Mt. Clemens Fireworks along the banks of the riverside!
